Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

The source code for the pdf I am submitting was written in standard LaTeX.
Preprocessors such as Scientific Workplace are not acceptable
I have registered myself (on this website) as an Author (use this link to register)
I have selected an appropriate Contribute Editor in the Categories section above.

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted to the Real Analysis Exchange should be well written and of interest to a substantial number of real analysts. Manuscripts should be submitted, preferably as pdf files to one of the Contributing Editors (by selecting the corresponding Category). All submissions are accepted for consideration with the understanding that while being reviewed by the Real Analysis Exchange, the same work will not be under review elsewhere. The Real Analysis Exchange is divided into four sections which are described below. When submitting a manuscript, authors should specify for which section they wish to have their manuscript considered.

Sections of the Real Analysis Exchange
Topical Surveys are articles giving an overview of one area of current research activity. These articles differ from survey articles in other journals both by their more limited scope and greater depth. Such articles should include a stream of mathematical thought from the origins of the topic through unpublished results. For information about writing a survey article, contact

The Research Articles section is reserved for original research in areas of interest to real analysts. A list of such areas grouped by Contributing Editor can be found here. To be published as a research article a paper must be correct and contain nontrivial new results significant to the literature of real analysis.

The Inroads section is intended for a less traditional presentation of information of interest to real analysts. Papers submitted to this section are expected to attain a high level of exposition, detailing both the results of the paper and their mathematical context. Submissions are evaluated more on their level of interest and utility than on the amount of original research they contain. Examples include:
- a new synthesis or viewpoint of known results
- a clever new proof of an important theorem
- an illuminating example or counterexample
- helpful progress on a complex problem
- an informative historical account

Copyright Notice

This contract contains the terms of an agreement between you as Author and Michigan State University Press (hereafter referred to as the Press) to publish the following Article (hereafter referred to as the Article) in Real Analysis Exchange (hereafter referred to as the Journal):

You as Author assign copyright rights to the Journal for the publication of the Article.
You as Author represent and warrant that the Article does not infringe on subsisting copyrights or other rights of any kind, and that the Article contains no material that is obscene, libelous, or otherwise in contravention of the law. You further warrant that the Article has not been published previously in whole or in part, or, that if the Article has been published previously in whole or in part, permission has been obtained to reprint said material from the appropriate holders of copyrights.
You as Author will indemnify and hold the Press and the Journal harmless against any loss, including attorney fees, occasioned by any breach of warranties outlined above in paragraph two.
You as Author agree to make changes to the Article you have already submitted in order to bring the Article into conformity with the Journal style and format.
The Journal and the Press retain the right to republish the Article in such form and at such time or times as they shall determine, in paper or electronic formats.
You as Author also have a right to republish in other publications, with prior permission from the Press. This right is subject only to the stipulation that credit be given to the Article prior publication in the Journal. The credit must state that the Journal is published by the Michigan State University Press.
You, as Author, agree to reimburse the Press at the rate of $10 per line for alterations made after page proofs have been submitted to the Press.
